CENTRAL INTELLIGENCE

This past weekend my husband and I went to see the fun comedy, Central Intelligence starring Dwayne (The Rock) Johnson and Kevin Hart. The chemistry between Kevin Hart and The Rock in it is brilliant. Basically, Calvin Joyner (Kevin Hart) was the kid in high school that everyone liked and was voted ‘most likely to succeed’ out of his graduating class. Bob Stone, (The Rock) was an overweight kid who got bullied in high school. Calvin was the only person who ever stood up for Bob and helped him when he was made fun of in high school. Cut to later in life when Calvin is working as an accountant, and while married to his high school sweetheart, he’s still unhappy with where his life is at career & goal-wise. Bob reaches out to Calvin via Facebook right before their high school reunion takes place. Bob is no longer an overweight kid in high school…he’s now, well, THE ROCK. Bob always viewed Calvin as the one person that had his back because he pretty much was the only person that had his back in high school. While Bob comes off as a little clingy and far-fetched, its still nice for Calvin to see an old high school buddy. After Calvin helps his old high school classmate out with an accounting issue, things quickly turn upside down for Calvin. The CIA shows up at his front door claiming Bob Stone is a deranged former agent that has turned against the CIA, and needs to be captured and removed. Needless to say, Calvin is not sure who to believe–the CIA agents that have shown up at his front door, or his old high school buddy that was always seemingly harmless. From there, the rest of the film is full of laughs and touching moments that have you second guessing who’s telling the truth the whole way through. One of the things I like best about this movie is it’s stance on bullying. I don’t want to give a ‘spoiler alert,’ but they just do a great job of touching on this subject–one of the horrible problems many children deal with today in school. I think its a nice lesson the writers and filmmakers incorporated into this script. They also touch on the matter of sometimes being ‘successful’ can mean being happy and grateful for one’s life and the blessings they have in it. Overall, if you’re looking for a fun-filled comedy to kick off your summer, go check out Central Intelligence!
