ABOUT ME

Hi! I'm Sandra, a serious lover of food, fashion and fun!

I’m a California girl and a country music singer/songwriter. I have been singing since the age of 7 and performing pretty much my whole life. As a creative, my mind is constantly at work, and I always feel like I have something to say. Whether it appeals to you or not depends on the person, but I wanted to share a piece of me in ways other than just through my songwriting and singing, so I decided to start this blog.

I’m a SoCal girl who has always loved country music. Everyone has their own definition of what country music should be, what it was like in the good ole days, or how it is now, but for me, country music growing up was the Dixie ChicksShania TwainFaith HillTrisha YearwoodSara EvansDeana Carter and the list goes on. Those are the female country artists I’ve always looked up to and aspire to be like. And while growing up in the ‘South’ for me was growing up in ‘South’ern California ;)–I have always appreciated the raw, vulnerable story-telling thread that country music has always had, which is one of the main reasons why I fell in love with it in the first place.

I grew up on a little cul-de-sac down the road from a huge dairy farm, where every other house on the block had horses in their backyards, and horse trails running through the housing tract. We lived on ½ an acre, and my parents, now married for 36 years, grew everything from apple, orange, lime, pear, plum, and lemon trees to squash, zucchini, watermelon, cantaloupe….you name it, we probably grew it. I remember as a child being out in the yard with my dad on the weekends, on a knee pad and with my mom’s (what I now call ‘retro’) flower gardening gloves, pulling weeds. My brother and I were raised in a household where my parents always taught us to work hard and be passionate about what you’re doing. Everything that my brother and I did as children—singing, dancing, acting, piano, school, sports—they always supported us and encouraged us in. They said if we were lucky enough to experience those things, then we need to work hard at them to appreciate them. You can’t get better at something unless you practice and work at it. And that’s exactly what I’ve continued telling myself everyday through life, as I venture through the crazy roller coaster journey of working down a creative career path. Because my parents instilled this work ethic in me, it naturally led me to be drawn to others that function in the same way.

Cut to, meeting my husband, David. From the moment I met David, we instantly shared our deepest passions and goals with one another, and now over ten years later, I can honestly say neither of us has stopped fighting for them, working towards them, and supporting each other in them. And because of this, we have gotten to do, see, and experience so many incredible things in life that I am grateful for on a daily basis. Whether it’s a simple night inside that I get to cook a fun, colorful meal for the two of us and share a glass of delicious wine over, or traveling to Africa to go on a two-week bush ride, walking down a red carpet in Vienna, Austria next to Tom Cruise, or sharing the stage with Kenny Chesney at the House of Blues. These are all experiences I’d love to share with you guys, and with that comes pictures, ideas, tidbits, tips, and sometimes just plain fun stories if you’re up for a random read.
